Park Benches

Something that probably most park visitors take for granted are the benches that dot the park. They can be found in three areas: The Picnic Area under the trees on the north side of the park; alongide Glenville Trail on the north side of the 3 lakes or ponds; and at the eastern end of Glenville Trail along the south side of the 3 lakes or ponds.

Most of the benches are made of wooden planks attached to metal frames. Only three benches are made entirely of metal. All but two of the wooden benches have the name of a former Park Department employee carved into them, in large letters, with date of retirement.

Something else that stands out about these benches is that while there are ten alongside Glenville Trail on the north side of the lakes or ponds, there is only one on the south side, and that is located at the far eastern end of the trail, just steps from the St. John's Drive bridge. If anyone wants to stop and rest a few moments on the way to the next bridge, by the Rec Center, they are out of luck! This is also the least shaded portion of the trail too! I recently brought this to the attention of the Parks Department Director, asking for the addition of three or four benches, at least, along the southside portion of Glenville Trail. The reply was polite but non-committal. Therefore, I encourage you, if this is something you feel as strongly about as I do, to contact the Parks Department. Maybe if they hear from more people they will actually do something about it. The Parks Department Director is Yvonne Falgout, email yvonne.falgout@cor.gov
